Quick self-tape tip before I go:
The single biggest mistake I see actors make on self-tape is trying to "do more" to compensate for not being in the room. They push. They indicate. They perform AT the camera instead of existing truthfully within the frame.
Here's the fix: treat the camera like a scene partner who's standing six inches away from your face. That intimate. That real. Everything else—the framing, the lighting, the reader—exists to support that truth.
