Hell, California

Hell, California is an anthology series created by Christian Elder; developed by a team of six writers meeting virtually since the beginning of the pandemic. It primarily takes place in a mysterious, mythical California border town called Hell. Each episode is a standalone tale of hardboiled crime fiction, casting a light on the human condition through stories about greed, lust and murder.

Meet the Writers

Christian Elder

Christian Elder is a screenwriter, playwright and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. He has been a finalist for Tribeca All Access, a semi-finalist for the International Thomas Wolfe Playwriting Award, a quarterfinalist for the ScreenCraft Play contest, a semi-finalist for the Garry Marshall Theatre New Works Festival and a quarterfinalist for the Academy Awards Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. His work written for the stage has been recently developed at the Billie Holiday Theatre through the Frank Silvera Writers’ Workshop and Urban Stages, both in New York. He has written and directed two short films and is the creator and executive producer of the new crime fiction anthology podcast HELL, CALIFORNIA.

Ryan Thomas Riddle

Ryan Thomas Riddle is a screenwriter and award-winning journalist, an occasional starship commander, and proud Filipinx queer. His work has appeared on the official Star Trek website, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and the Daily Post. He's currently working on a variety of projects for TV/Film and comics. Jimmy Hunt

Jimmy Hunt is an actor and screenwriter from Fontana, CA. His first project, ‘notes’, won Best Writing at the 2019 Inland Empire 48 Hr. Film Festival. He graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA, chasing baseball as far as it would take him. He thanks, in particular, two teachers at Hargrave who urged him to start writing, R. Zachary Sanzone and Lisa Haertel.


In his free time, he loves bouldering, driving aimlessly, beating strangers at FIFA, watching old movies, and thinking of new ones.

Jeremy Foley and Sara O'Reilly

Based in Los Angeles, Jeremy Foley and Sara O’Reilly are a husband-and-wife screenwriting team who enjoy crafting imaginative, high-concept stories with heart. Jeremy is an entertainment industry professional with over 20 years of experience in film and television and works as a producer in marketing and behind-the-scenes content. Sara’s day job is a documentary writer and story producer. Her recent credits include the Apple TV+ docuseries HOME. Together, Jeremy and Sara’s screenplays have placed in contests including the Screencraft Fellowship, Austin Film Festival, Final Draft, WeScreenplay, Scriptapalooza, and Stage32. Their award-winning short films include The Faceless Man and FATED, which was Academy Qualified.

Christian Martin

Christian Martin is a screenwriter based in Los Angeles who writes stylized stories about misfits in fantasy and sci-fi worlds. Before pursuing a career in TV, he got a degree in Creative Writing, wrote tons of weird short stories that almost no one read, and worked wrangling teenagers at a public school.
